Mammoth Molar Scales - Natural Y-Cut
Experience the unique beauty of ancient history with our Mammoth Molar Scales, professionally stabilized by Raffir® in Denmark. Each set includes two pieces, showcasing the natural Y-Cut design that brings out the intricate details of these prehistoric fossils. The scales are cut from a larger mammoth molar, which were first stabilized with resin to ensure their longevity. This process results in a durable material that requires minimal surface sanding before attachment to a handle or other applications.- Professional stabilization by Raffir® in Denmark
- Natural Y-Cut design for a unique aesthetic
- Durable material with minimal surface sanding needed
High-Quality and Authentic Fossils
Our Mammoth Molar Scales are genuine fossils, dating back to the last ice age (10,000-40,000 BP). These rare fossils are a testament to the ancient world and make for a truly special product. Each piece is stabilized using vacuum, high pressure, and strong resins, ensuring their integrity for years to come. These fossils are not only visually stunning but also versatile, commonly used for knife handle scales, pistol grips, jewelry, inlays, and other precious objects.- Genuine mammoth fossils from the last ice age
- Stabilized using vacuum, high pressure, and strong resins
- Commonly used for knife handle scales, pistol grips, and jewelry
Material Properties and Processing
The fossils are not yet petrified but contain natural minerals, making them harder to work with than non-fossil material. Raffir Mammoth Ivory is the softest of the three, requiring normal tools for bone and horn processing. Raffir Mammoth Bone is harder, while Raffir Mammoth Molar is the hardest due to its enamel layers, necessitating diamond tools for optimal results. We recommend saturating the surface of all Raffir Fossils with cyanoacrylics (Super Glue) after grinding, followed by additional fine sanding and polishing for a smoother and stronger finish.- Not yet petrified but contain natural minerals
- Processed with diamond tools for the hardest material
- Saturate with cyanoacrylics for a smoother finish
