Our vision for the flagship sail of the KA Sail performance range was quite simple: create a sail that allows any serious racer to reach his or her full potential! In order to achieve our vision of allowing any serious racer to reach his or her full potential, we are constantly developing, testing, tuning and refining these sails. They are under continuous development and close examination every time we do a new production build.
RACE SET-UP ... BLISTERING SPEED, ACCELERATION AND LIGHTWEIGHT ERGONOMICS
We remain true to our mission statement to stay leaders in innovation and produce very high quality products with a high performance level. The KA.RACE remains our full-blooded professional race sail, created solely to win, with a 7 carbon/composite batten and 4 camber set-up.
Already in 2022 we added the former 4-camber KA.SPEED sizes (4.7 - 5.2 - 5.7) to the KA.RACE range. Main reason for this was that we noticed that the difference in performance between KA.RACE and KA.SPEED was only very slight. For the sake of transparency in our ranges, KONCEPT is our 3-camber Freerace sail, and the KA.RACE our 4-camber Race sail.
The smaller sizes KA.RACE are optimised for downwind speed runs with acceleration and a top speed exceeding that of a full-blooded race sail, with a refined twist optimisation. Sizes 6.3 and up are tuned for Slalom racing, with more shape added in panels 5, 6 and 7 to increase acceleration. This improved panel lay-out and extra shaping with a more powerful lower foil provide huge drive and acceleration while the slippery upper profile minimises drag, delivering limitless top end speed in the KA.RACE series.
UNBELIEVABLE DRAFT STABILITY AND A SOFT, LIGHT FEEL
The relatively high foil tension of the KA.RACE is teamed up with the carbon/composite battens and 4 cambers producing draft stability levels that should really be experienced to be believed! The sail has a light and soft feel with a bit less pull from up high which makes the sail easier to lock down especially in rougher water. Reduced overall weight of the sail without sacrificing the incredible stability whilst keeping the emphasis on acceleration and top speed!
HI-TECH MATERIALS AND REDUCTION OF SWING WEIGHT
Hi-tech materials in the upper luff sleeve area of the KA.RACE have impacted the mast bend and leech twist for a light feel, enhanced acceleration, speed and stability. Notable feature is the hi-tech 2mil tri-axial laminate in the leech and mast sleeve, reducing the sail’s overall weight and assisting control by reducing the swing weight. This gives the KA.RACE a soft ergonomic feel, which is especially noticeably in rough conditions.
RDM VS SDM CAMBERS
Sizes 4.7 and 5.2 come standard with RDM cambers, but are SDM compatible. Sizes 5.7 and up are supplied with SDM cams, but are RDM compatible. SDM and RDM camber replacement sets are available separately by request.
