madCAM 5Xtra includes everything in madCAM 5X plus simultaneous 5-axis features like Swarf profiling, perpendicular to surface profiling, part trimming from curves and vectors, 3D drive surface control and more.

This version is aimed for the user that needs additional features for advanced simultaneous 5-axis milling. The extra degree of sophistication for your particular projects.

The drive surface option makes it possible to use any standard toolpath function and keep the cutter perpendicular to the drive surface. The dive surface can be a surface as part of the model or an external surface. This makes it possible to control the cutter direction in simultaneous 5-axis independent of the shape of the model. The drive surface option works for roughing, waterline finishing, planar finishing, pencil tracing etc.

The swarf profiling is used to create simultaneous 5-axis profiling toolpaths from surface edge curves and keep the cutter parallel to the surface. This function works over several surface edges and can be used on polysurface or solid nurbs models.

The perpendicular to surface profiling is used to create simultaneous 5-axis profiling toolpaths from surface edge curves and keep the cutter perpendicular to the surface. Works on polysurface or solid nurbs models with curves over several surface edges.

The part trimming is used to create simultaneous 5-axis profiling toolpaths from curves and vectors. The cutter direction is controlled by selected vectors or line curves. This function can also be used for simultaneous 5-axis scribing.

Key Features and Benefits

• Roughing - Removes all the unnecessary material from the workpiece in an effective way. madCAM 5Xtra cuts the part in z-levels. The operator can choose a ramp angle to create a smooth approach of the cutter after every retract and traverse.
• Finishing - Gives the final surface finish of the part. madCAM 5Xtra effectively calculates cuts for both planar and z-level finishing. The operator controls the limit with an angle for relatively horizontal and relatively vertical surfaces. The limit is calculated from the surface normal.
• Remachining - This method offers an opportunity to remove material that remains where the previous cutter could not reach due to size of cutter. madCAM 5Xtra has strategies for removing material calculated from the true stock model, inside boundary curves and with surface dual contact (pencil trace).
• Curve Milling - This includes methods for machining from curves. The curve milling offers opportunities for Engraving and strategies for toolpath projection inside boundary curves and between two curves.
• 2 1/2 D Machining - This includes methods for machining from curves or surface edge curves. Profiling, Pocketing, Facing and Drilling.
