Description

Commissioned by the Reno Jazz Orchestra, augmented by female vocal and gospel choir.  Loosely based on Gladys Night's version (in Gladys' Key).  In the middle section, the slow 3/4 morphs into Afro 12/8 for a Tenor solo.  Backgrounds build up, and at the climax the choir comes in with the hymn tune behind the solo, creating a nice moment, which leads back to the slow tempo for a restatement of the tune and ending.  Not overly difficult - provides a good opportunity for the choir to join the jazz band in performance on a Holiday concert.
