This is an original 1938 halftone print of a screen titled, "Japanese Port," originally created in the early 17th century. The image depicts a boat coming to shore with supplies. Interestingly, the artist may not have seen an actual boat, as there are various mistakes with the ship, including the placement of the yards above the baskets.

Period Paper is pleased to present a collection of halftone prints featuring Japanese art screens and sliding panels, or fusuma. The original pieces were displayed at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts, during the winter of 1935-1936, in order to acquaint the public with Japanese artwork. The exhibition offered pieces from the Ashikaga, Momoyama, Tokugawa and Meiji periods, and featured numerous artists from each time frame. It is an interesting collection and depicts the transformation of Japanese artwork from the 15th to the 20th century.
