ABOUT THIS WINE
Comte Georges de Vogüé holds the largest share of Musigny Grand Cru—a monopole-like 7.2 hectares—of which this cuvée comes from the oldest vines, many planted before 1950. Only fruit from vines over 25 years old is included in Vieilles Vignes; younger vines are declassified into the estate’s Chambolle-Musigny village wine. The vineyard sits on a gentle slope of shallow, stony, limestone-rich soils that yield wines of incredible aromatic lift and structural refinement.
The 2022 vintage was characterized by a warm, consistent growing season and an early harvest that preserved freshness and phenolic precision. Fermentation is carried out with native yeasts and gentle extraction—emphasizing purity and silkiness over power. Aging takes place in French oak barrels, around 30% new, for 18–20 months. The resulting wine is both expansive and tightly composed, offering a core of ripe red and black fruit, floral nuance, fine mineral grip, and a texture that is more satin than silk. This is a wine built for decades, deserving of cellaring to unlock its full potential. Pair with dishes of equally nuanced character, such as pigeon with morels, roast squab, or simply aged Comté.
ABOUT THIS PRODUCER
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is a cornerstone of Chambolle-Musigny and among Burgundy’s most revered domaines. With a winemaking heritage spanning over 500 years, it has remained family-owned and resolutely traditional, holding the largest and most iconic parcel of Musigny Grand Cru. Under the long-standing team led by François Millet (now succeeded by successors upholding his legacy), Jean-Luc Pépin, and the de Vogüé family, the domaine champions low-intervention, terroir-transparent winemaking.
Farming is sustainable, with a deep respect for the land’s biodiversity and vintage expression. The cellar approach emphasizes elegance, purity, and age-worthiness—eschewing heavy extraction or overt new oak. The Musigny Vieilles Vignes is the crown jewel: an ethereal, deeply expressive wine that captures the spiritual core of Chambolle-Musigny, revered for its ability to unite power and poise in timeless harmony.
