Sourced exclusively from the high-elevation vineyards of Pritchard Hill, the 2021 vintage of Chappellet’s Cabernet Franc captures the depth and complexity that mountain viticulture brings to this expressive grape. Grown in rocky, volcanic soils and harvested in a near-perfect growing season, the fruit achieves exceptional ripeness, concentration, and aromatic purity.

The blend is primarily Cabernet Franc, often supported by small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and/or Petit Verdot to add depth and structure. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by aging in French oak barrels—about 60% new—for 18 to 22 months. This careful regimen allows the wine to gain texture and complexity without overwhelming its aromatic brightness.

On the nose, look for floral lift, red and black fruit, and savory spice. The palate shows beautifully balanced acidity, polished tannins, and complex layers of plum, tobacco leaf, clove, and wet stone. It is both powerful and graceful, with aging potential of 10–15 years.

This wine is superb with roasted duck, herb-crusted lamb, lentil and mushroom dishes, or hard aged cheeses like Comté and Manchego.
